The Palace of Eternal Life

It is a very famous Kunqu Opera that has been widely spread and deeply influenced.

 In the prosperous Tang Dynasty, Tang Ming Huang and his concubine Yang Yuhuan fell in love at first sight, and they bestowed gold hairpins to confirm their love. Tang Ming Huang deeply loved Yang Yuhuan. 

 At the request of Yang Yuhuan, Tang Ming Huang made the love vows with her, which were passed down through the ages. “ In the sky to be two birds flying wing to wing, on earth to be two trees with branches intertwined “ They both wished for conjugal bliss.

Tang Ming Huang was obsessed with Yang Yuhuan all day and ignored all the political affairs, which led to the miseries of many people. As a result, An Lushan rebelled. 

On the way to flee to the middle of Shu, the soldiers and generals shouted, "If you don't kill Guifei, we will no longer escort the Emperor.” In desperation, Tang Ming Huang ordered Yang Yuhuan to commit suicide. 

After the rebellion subsided, Tang Ming Huang and Concubine Yang were separated by the Great Divide. 

Such a touching love tragedy, performed vividly in the splendid music in the Kunqu Opera, is unforgettable and eternal.
