Kun Opera - The Tale of Pipa

Scholar Cai Bojie (蔡伯喈) wanted to enjoy the life with his wife Zhao Wuniang (趙五娘) after the marriage, but his father, The Elder Cai (蔡公), did not agree. Bojie was forced to take the imperial examination and was then required to marry the prime minister's daughter. Although he was unwilling, Prime Minister Niu (牛丞相) insisted. After becoming an official, his family faced famine, and his parents passed away without his knowledge. He missed his parents and wanted to resign and return home, but the court would not allow it. Zhao Wuniang, carrying a pipa (琵琶, a type of Chinese musical instrument), traveled and sang while begging, going to the capital to find her husband. In the end, she finally found him, and they were reunited.
