Tragedy of the Poet King

Li Yu was the emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty and also a poet with great literary talent and affection.  He was not good at governing the country, knew nothing about power, and only bore interest in mountains, rivers, beauties, and poems. When the power of the Southern Tang Dynasty declined, Emperor Zhao Kuangyin of the Song Dynasty used treacherous schemes to seize the Southern Tang Dynasty easily. 

 Li Yu surrendered to the Song Dynasty and became a king of subjugation.  Even though he loved poetry as his life and was indifferent to power struggles, Yet, he could not avoid the disaster.  After the death of Song Emperor Zhao Kuangyin, who loved literary talents, his younger brother Zhao Guangyi succeeded to the throne.  Zhao Guangyi was cruel and ruthless. He was always jealous of Li Yu's literary talent and his brother's respect for him, and finally burned Li Yu's precious manuscripts and killed Li Yu's younger brother Li Congshan…

The sorrowful laments of the final Southern Tang Emperor have been echoing through the ages.
